Excellent interview with Louis Theroux with TSOYA, not familiar with them but their public broadcast is actually quite intelligent and interesting.

Seems fitting to upload this free album after the Tenori-on album previous.
We really want to buy a monome sometime this year, I think it beats the Tenori-on in versatility, look and sound. The last batch is already sold out! The packaging and build are gorgeous, a beautiful piece of work.
(I like that Davidson lists this first in his bio, "I make things")

We put this together for the fun of it, I mean how could we have so many instruments and not make something ;-)
Info: The tracks are a combination of improvisational recordings direct to an apple laptop mic and minimal multi-tracking with a USB sound recorder.
We kept the sound raw and natural so the experience of listening to the tracks is close to hearing them live, some sounds were not planned such as the egg timer ringing in the background on track 08:-) Neither of us are musicians but we both love music and enjoy sonic experimentation using our handmade electronic instruments, collection of guitar effects and everyday objects.
If you would like to know more about the sounds, we will post the details on our site (http://fotosisdiy.blogspot.com).
Also, you can get the entire EP zip file here http://in.solit.us/archives/download/113821.(In.solit.us, the site we use to host our audio files, is a bit weird you have to scroll down to get to the 'download' button that lets you grab the track, its below the stupid banner ad). The zip includes a full description of what instruments/pedals/objects we used for each track. | 01 By the Sea | | | | | | | 02 Bumps | | | | | | | 03 Orchestre Imaginaire | | | | | | | 04 Sunday | | | | | | | 05 Chimes | | | | | | | 06 21 45 | | | | | | | 07 B-Remix | | | | | | | 08 Lumiere | | | | | | | 09 BTS-Remix | | | | | | | 10 Tones | | | | | |
I love projects like this and seeing how I doubt I will ever get my hands on a Tenori-on anytime soon, this album will have to do.
Fairbanks composed the following tracks realtime without the use of sampling or multi-tracking, calling his concept “creativity through limitation”. Awesome.
From CDM interview:
"Norman Fairbanks has released the first album produced entirely on the Tenori-On, the unusual LED-bestrewn sequencing sampler instrument currently available from Yamaha in the UK. It’s a no-risk listen: the full album is available for download free from his website. The results sound like a Tenori-On album, with minimal looping patterns a bit like those you’d expect out of a newly-invented Pocket Steve Reich Machine, but the textures get immersed in a cool, ambient landscape."
"What made you work with the Tenori-On? What had you been working with before?"
"I did my very first demo some 17 years ago, produced with just one synthesizer. So I quite know a bit about how challenging it is to make a great sound with only one machine. I call that “creativity through limitation”. Working with the Tenori-On was a bit like being in the same situation again. It was fascinating for me to do this self-experiment, to utilize only on one machine in order to see where it can go. Besides I did not feel like I needed anything else to make it complete."
"I work extremely reduced with respect to my equipment, just using my laptop, a good soundcard and my Grado’s. Strangely enough I believe my sound became even better the less equipment I have used. The Tenori-On obviously fits the way I work perfectly."

A sample of NASA's recordings of Saturn. One track sounds like Aphex Twin lol I am working on a short horror film so one of these tracks will definitely be in the soundtrack.
"Sounds from outer space are weird, if not downright spooky. Be ready for a goosebump or two as you feast your ears on some of the greatest sounds gathered during the exploration of the Saturnian system."

A great show with Gilles Peterson's usual jazzy/funky program but this time with the great and always interesting Ahmir Khalib Thompson aka Questlove.
Sorry for the bad/fuzzy recording but the show doesn't keep its' archives and I wanted other fans to have a chance to listen. The guest appearance is casual yet lengthy, informative, nostalgic with many fresh anecdotes. Then there is the music.
Check it out!

A very funny and charming French duo based in England. Here are some mp3's for free download on their website.

"The Lovers are a French electronica/pop band based in Sheffield, England, consisting of real-life lovers Fred de Fred and Marion Benoist. Their music is usually upbeat, satirising French stereotypes, with special fondness for songs about food and sex."

Found by John, a German co-op that has created a physical reverb tank that spans 11 metres.
What does this mean?
“Tank-FX is a non-virtual effect device. The reverb is generated by a huge [11m] tank made of ferroconcrete. We put some mics and speakers in it and connected them to a unix box, so everybody can use it now from the internet. To try it out, just upload some audio material. It will be processed in real-time.
Have fun with our genuine reverb!”
By uploading a (maximum) 60 second audio file, you can convert in realtime the original track into a newly created sound file with genuine reverb.
I uploaded Jack Kerouac’s sound bite of ‘I’d Rather Be Famous Than Fat’. Check it out, the second track is the original.

For fans, and those who are in one of the nine cities cancelled on their current European tour...
"The Arcade Fire have cancelled 9 dates on their current European Tour. Win Butler has been fighting a sinus infection since the beginning of this year and has simply been unable to get back to full health. With the constant demands on his voice from touring it has reached the stage today where he simply cannot sing.
The shows are the final nine of the sold out European tour. The cancelled shows are
Mar 24 Oslo, Sentrum Scene Mar 25 Copenhagen, KB Halle Mar 27 Berlin, Postbanhof Mar 28 Munich, Elser Halle Mar 31 Lyon, Transbordeur Apr 1 Cologne, Palladium Apr 2 Utrecht, Vredenburg Apr 4 Brussels, Halles de Schaerbeek Apr 5 Lille, L'Aeronef
Ticket holders should get in touch with the promoter directly regarding refunds. Due to future touring plans, it is unlikely that these shows will be rescheduled until later this year."
